Why to make pictures using a 50mm?

First, a 50mm lens doesn’t distort the images, what happens when using an 18mm. Second, you get much better results with a wide aperture. I used f1.4, f1.8 or f2.2. With my 1.8-70mm, I used f6 of f8 to get the same.
The disadvantage is that, using such a lens, you can’t make pictures on long distance.
Anyway, as a street photographer, you only photography what is near you. Furthermore, many famous photographers, e.g. Cartier Bresson, only use(d) 50mm.
