The Schützenhofbunker in Münster, constructed between 1941 and 1942 during World War II, served as a robust shelter for residents, featuring thick concrete walls designed to withstand air raids. This imposing structure, measuring 61 meters in length, 14.5 meters in width, and 9.8 meters in height, became a vital refuge amid the chaos of war, protecting many from aerial attacks.
In recent years, the bunker underwent a significant transformation, being renovated and converted into a residential building. The renovation aimed to preserve its historical essence while providing modern living spaces. Today, the Schützenhofbunker houses 38 apartments, blending the starkness of its original concrete design with contemporary aesthetics. Color photographs showcase its new beauty, while black and white images serve as a poignant reminder of its past, illustrating the raw concrete before the renovation and the historical significance it holds as a memorial to the lives affected by wartime tragedies.
